This cut seems particularly cruel. As reported in the Winnipeg Free Press, residents at Deer Lodge in Winnipeg, some of them Veterans, will receive fewer hours of recreational therapy. According to Bob Moroz, head of the Manitoba Association of Health Care Professionals, “The WRHA is taking advantage of this opportunity to try and slide in further cuts to the health care of our citizens, under the guise of decreased (veterans) funding.” He also noted that “Recreation therapy is so much more, obviously, than playing some cards or keeping them occupied; there’s a real therapeutic value to it”.
